Although D.C. United ended up last in the Eastern Division, they were not the worst team last season. With 26 points they easily beat Tampa Bay and Colorado. New England, also in the Eastern Division ended up with one more loss then D.C. but they came away with more ties, so they had 27 points to D.C. United's 26. One big plus to the United's off-season is that midfielders Mark Lisi and Bobby Convey will be playing on the U.S. national team. Good luck to D.C. United next season.

Defender Eddie Pope's surgery on his left knee went well on November 20, 2001. He is expected to begin practicing again in January. He was named D.C. United's defender of the year, and was also an enourmous force on the defensive end of the U.S. World Cup Qualifying matches.
